“Experts from HBJ Gateley Wareing’s top ranked Employment Law team, will provide an employment law update and an HR Surgery.

The Employment law update will focus on 5 key cases from 2010 together with 5 key employment law issues for 2011 that every employer needs to know about including:

  • Changes to the law on retirement – will employers still be able to require workers to retire at age 65?
  • New rights for agency workers – will agency workers be entitled to be treated the same as permanent staff?
  • Disciplinary hearings – do employees have a right to be represented by lawyers?
  • Recruitment – can you still use health questionnaires during the recruitment process?
  • Redundancy – how to avoid unfair dismissal claims

There will also be an “HR Surgery” where you can ask those HR questions you’ve under “Chatham House Rules” to encourage a free discussion.

Finally, the session will also explain how employers based in Nottinghamshire can obtain free HR and legal advice, and occupational health support, under a government funded pilot scheme until March 2011.

9th November at The Village Hotel including a free workshop on Olympic Business Opportunities

The meeting at the Village Hotel on the 9th November, saw Rory Slater of  Championing Derbyshire, showing us how to signup and take advantage of the Olympic bidding site “Competefor.com”.  Rory states “So far, 14% have gone to companies with between 11 and 20 employees“.  The Olympic Torch will be touring this region and all the support for this will be contracted out to local companies, so lots of opportunities. We were please to welcome 11 guests to our meeting along with a good turn out of members. The Village Hotel again provided a good back drop to our event.

Free Workshop will be :- The Olympic Business Opportunities for the East Midlands

Rory Slater recently stated “So far, 14% have gone to companies with between 11 and 20 employees“.

Rory Slater, co-ordinator for Championing Derbyshire, explained how companies can “put themselves in the Olympic shop window” by registering themselves on the website www.competefor.com. Members and guests were helped to register and to fill out their company details.

Rory was keen to explain how the site is not just for multi-million-pound building contracts, but also for services that are offered by far smaller companies.

“Recently, the www.competefor.com website has been looking for services as diverse as printed flags, media training, steel piping, hand driers and men’s ties.

“All of those types of firms operate in East Midlands, so it is up to us to make sure they are aware of this huge potential.”
